Call goes out for Pecha Kucha Night Vol #2

SCCA Team - Thursday, January 14, 2010

Create and sustain -  that’s the theme for creatives to reflect on as they share their work at our next Pecha Kucha Night on Tuesday March 23, 2010.  This event will provide an opportunity for artists, designers, entrepreneurs, environmentalists and others to discuss what they’re passionate about, but only for 6 minutes and 40 seconds.  That’s the challenge of presenting in the Pecha Kucha format using 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds.

Our first coastal Pecha Kucha Night was held in October 2009 and included presenters such as Bark Design , tea cosy queen Loani Prior, furniture designer Ross Annels, Gubbi Gubbi artist Lyndon Davis, musician Kate Gibson and graphic designer Taty Hindes.  An audience of around 70 gathered to share in the creative exchange and we hope for an even bigger turn out this time with the event co-hosted by the community cultural board of the Noosa Biosphere.

Pecha Kucha is pronounced pe-chak-cha and is Japanese for the sound of conversation.  The format was devised by Tokyo based architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in 2003 to allow for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. Pecha Kucha has tapped into a global demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily shown as it has spread virally to over 270 cities across the world.

The Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance has been accredited as official hosts for Pecha Kucha Night – and we are the first regional centre in Australia to host the event.  Whilst coastal Pecha Kucha Nights to date have been hosted in Noosa but over the next year the plan is to hold other events across the coast to help ‘flush’ out and profile different creatives.

The Vol #2 Pecha Kucha Night is being hosted by the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance on Tuesday 23 March from 6.30, Venue and cost to be confirmed.  If you are interested in presenting please email a 200 word description that outlines your work and what you plan to present about at the Pecha Kucha Night event email us or submit through the Sunshine Coast page on the Pecha Kucha Night website.  Please send your details by February 5, 2010.
