Inspire Japan Update

SCCA Team - Wednesday, April 13, 2011

This Saturday the Sunshine Coast will be part of a global network that will join together to 'Inspire Japan' and raise funds for the recovery and rebuilding. Starting in New Zealand, various centres will webstream presentations with our contribution coming in at 2.45pm at the end of the 'Off the Rack' fashion event at Coolum Civic Centre (8.00 am - 3.30 pm).  We will share several Pecha Kucha style presentations including input from artist Judy Barrass/Juanita Deharo, sound artist Leah Barclay and Landscape architect James Birrell.  The day will include a raffle of several beautiful works, including two by sculptor and ceramic artist Kim Schoenberger and one by ceramic artist Carol Forster. A rare kimono, valued at over $1 000 from the private collection of Donna Webster from Kimono Collections will also be raffled.  Thank you Kim, Carol and Donna for donating these beautiful pieces! Details of works are included below:

The works selected for donation are from Kim's (award winning) ceramics
'Unearthed Series'.

1. Guilded Dish - dry and gloss glazes, fired to 1200* oxidation, wheel
thrown, hand carved and sprig decoration, gold leaf, H 7cm x W&D 12cm.

2.  Oval Platter - dry and gloss glazes, fired to 1200* oxidation, hand made
with sprig decoration, H 5cm x W 50cm x D 37cm.

Carol explains the work as follows: "My recent range of origami pieces have been handmade in fine paper porcelain clay using paper folding techniques to mimic the traditional Japanese art of Origami.  The laminated marbled clay on the inside of the bowls has been inspired by Suminagashi the ancient Japanese technique of decorating paper with inks which is believed to be the oldest form of marbling."

Open your eyes to creative opportunity

SCCA Team - Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Opportunities will abound for eye-opening inspiration when the next Creative Alliance catalyst club connects with the Jewellery and Art Gallery at Carrington’s on Tuesday May 25 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Julie Carrington believes in giving creative people an opportunity to be seen and heard. “We’ve evolved from hair to healing, through to jewellery as wearable art. We now actively search for outstanding local visual artists who need a place to be seen. This journey has taken place since 1991 in our Sunshine Beach Road gallery.”    More >>
