About this showcase:
My work is essentially about finding the uniqueness of a place, whether it be historically, culturally or environmental and incorporate it into a piece of public furniture or art work. So that the community finds it relevant and wants to take ownership of it.
Relevant education & experience:
Richard built a 3 story stone and pole house surrounded by rain-forest in Maleny. After that he left for Hobart in 1992 for 4 years to gain an B.F.A.(Hons) in Furniture design.
He returned to be one of two artistes employed full time for the Cooroy Community Streetscape. Successfully completed on time and on budget over 35 commissions for public art work.Totally designed the Golden Award winning Nambour Adventure Playground.

The Art Crate
A Entrance statement for the Cooloola Public Gallery. Designed with stainless steel,fluro plastic and neon lights to contrast with the Historic listed building. And give the indication of the excitement of ever changing exhibitions. -
The River seat
Built on the embankment of the Hampton River, in Rockhampton. Hence the rocks and the meandering seat.
Designed for community conversations. -
Entrance statement for the Millwell Community Centre.
It was on this road that the first well was dug to supply water to the first European building on the Sunshine Coast, a saw mill.
Water trickles from a broken bucket down a chute. The chute breaks to discharge gallons of water down a stone race, and the action is repeated again and again.

Whale table at Perigian Square.
Engraved on the end are the words;-
"Buckets of compassion, along cold night and a stranded whale swims free.
Humpback whale rescue Perigian Beach 1991."

'Reflections of Reality'
Caboolture City Centre, part of the trail of reflections.
The buildings are all actual historic buildings that have been removed from the city.Leaving only the reflections? Or European Buildings built in the Northern hemisphere to replace
native fauna and flora? -
Interactive signage for Nambour's Adventure Playground.
It demonstrates Tom Petrie building the first hotel/Council office/ school in Nambour. He gave the land where the park is situated to the community. -
